D-Link DES-1008E

$146.00 Released July, 2004

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Very fast performance, can power a number of POE access points with ease. Solidly constructed, fit and finish on all the ports and the casing seem very durable. Runs unmanaged and unattended, so you can set it up and forget about it.

The Cons:Priced a little high for the number of features included. Doesn't have any Gigabit ports available. Doesn't allow for customized setup and management.

). Additionally, each port is outfitted with Auto MDI/MDI-X configuration, thereby eliminating the need for crossover cables when connecting to say another switch or hub. Additional features include zero fans, ultra-quiet operation, diagnoastic LEDs, and optimized network performance with automatic minimization of bad network packets. Unfortunately, the D-Link DES-1008E lacks its Gigabit peer’s energy efficiency, which means increased heat output and a shorter product life.
