Fon Fonera 2.0g

$30.00 Released July, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Printer sharing. Run a wireless hotspot for free or commercially - money paid to Fon for access to your connection is shared with you. Runs OpenWrt open source Linux based firmware.

The Cons:Product has been made obsolete by the newer Fonera 2.0n router. You still need an ADSL modem since this device is just a router. Not all ISPs allow sharing your internet connection.

The Fonera is a second generation wireless G router from Fon. Designed as part of a social wireless access project, the affordable Fonera creates dual wireless networks - one private and the other public.

Where to Buy

Users who purchase the device and open their public networks to other members of the community receive free WiFi in return whereas those who do not can pay for access (part of that income is given back to those who provide the access). The Fonera 2.0g builds on the previous generation of Fon routers by adding a USB port which allows the device to share resources of USB-storage, webcams or printers. Attaching a 3G modem will permit the device to share an internet connection with users. The Fonera 2.0g was withdrawn following the introduction of the 2.0n router.
